About

Independent, non-aligned, soft-Republicans, soft Democrats, cross-over voters — these are the words used to describe 2 out of 5 (and growing numbers of) voters who like to shop the ballot.  We vote for the person, not the party.

Independent Texans is building a third force both inside and outside the parties, not another political party. In 2001, we organized as simply a citizen’s political action group.  Under Texas election law requirements, we are registered as a general purpose political action committee.  What we raise and spend is readily available on the internet at the Texas Ethics Commission website.

Our organization is designed to help candidates, regardless of political party, win local and state elections, and to help defeat incumbents who are deserving of such. What our criteria is for support begins with Political Reform & Fiscal Reform and ends with whatever issues are identified by voters within the particular district in play.  For example, in the 2006 gubernatorial race we helped bring the fight to stop the Trans-Texas Corridor, together with the right of the people to petition for a statewide vote on issues (initiative, referendum and the right to recall.)  Carole Strayhorn took those issues and ran with them.

We independents understand that the problems in our country are systemic.  We see that we, the voters, are also part of the problem. Americans want a quick and easy fix to deep political divisions and problems that have festered due to a complex unraveling of the American economy.  We independents know the fix isn’t easy and it will not come without a huge movement outside both parties that has the country united for reform.

Texas is no “miracle” as touted by Governor Rick Perry, now running for the presidency.  Though we seek not to participate in the blame game played so well by both parties, we hope the American people will hear just a tad of the whole truth about Texas under Rick Perry.  There’s lot of stuff coming out on the net, but we suggest you check out the new national citizen’s independent PAC established at IndyAmericans.com.

If you’re really up to understanding the Texas independent movement, take some time to read the full story of our history and political experiments at, “Who Will Organize the Independents.”  We’d love to hear your thoughts when you’re finished.

Most important, we are about YOU and giving you the tools to be active right where you are.  Let us know what we can do to assist.  Send us an email here or just give us at call at 512-535-0989.  Thank you for wanting to know about us!
