Senator Lieberman’s independent run for the Senate has nothing to do with the diverse efforts by independent activists to create genuine political alternatives to the Democrats and Republicans. Senator Lieberman is about as independent as Boss Tweed. As Fred Newman states in this week’s Talk/Talk, “What is it that you’re independent of? You’re surely not independent of the traditional Democratic Party. You’re surely not independent of George Bush. So what is it that you are independent of? I take it that what you’re attempting to be independent of is losing your job. That’s the only thing I’m certain that you’re independent of.â€
